FAQ

  • No, but most people choose to schedule a Group Event instead, then walk or carpool to the many nearby restaurants for pizza and cake after climbing! Candlewood Market (located in the same plaza as us) offers 10% off a pizza party after your climbing session.

  • We have plenty of top rope, lead, mixed, and bouldering routes, as well as numerous auto belays, a fitness center, Kilter Board… the list goes on!

  • Absolutely! We have plenty of kid-friendly routes. Be sure to familiarize yourself with our policies on climbing with kids before arriving.

  • Wear comfortable clothing that won’t restrict your movement. Socks are recommended for shoe rentals.

  • Belaying is the process of managing the rope for a climber using certain belay devices, including taking out slack, catching the climber, and lowering them back down to the ground. Learning how to belay will give you and your climbing partners so much more access to our facility!

  • Nope! We offer plenty of bouldering and auto-belays.

However if you would like to belay friends on our ropes, you must pass our belay certification test. This test includes the set-up of a belay device, tying the figure eight follow-through knot, and belaying, catching, and lowering a climber. You can opt to take the test on a tube-style belay device or some assisted-braking devices.

  • An auto-belay is an automatic retracting device that you attach to your harness. It retracts as you climb up and lowers you to the ground when you let go of the wall.

Auto-belays give you access to our tallest walls without the need for a certified belayer or staff member.

  • Bouldering is climbing without ropes on shorter walls in designated areas where the floors are padded and every fall is a ground fall.

  • Nope! A day pass gives you full access to our facilities all day. Stay as long as you like, come and go as you please, and should you choose to start a membership the same day, we’ll credit your day pass purchase towards your membership!

  • You can request a freeze or cancellation [here]. Please note: RCF does not accept phone cancellations.

  • We’re glad you asked! Check out our Facebook group made specially for climbers like you to find partners, check out the partners feature in the Cling app, or put your name on the Climbing Partner whiteboard during your next visit!

You can also search ROCK CLIMB FAIRFIELD on meetup.com.

  • We highly recommend that you wear climbing shoes. Climbing shoes are designed to increase your climbing abilities, making it easier to use small footholds and have better coordination on the wall. If you don’t have your own shoes, we have rental options available at our facility. If you don’t feel comfortable wearing rental shoes, you may use your own as long as they are close toed, clean, and dry.

Climbing in open toe or heel-less shoes, or barefoot is strictly forbidden.

  • All day! Feel free to come in and out as your please until we close on the day you purchase day passes. Just let staff know you were here earlier so we don’t charge you again!
